Best of Burlesque
We would be remiss if we didn’t mention the Best of Burlesque in our best of burlesque round-up, the clue being in the title and all. This show is returning to Assembly for a third year, and sees competing burlesque and variety stars battle it out for spots in the World Burlesque Games final in London. It’s nipple tassels at dawn at this all-star show, which features different guests every night.

Ivy Paige: Filthy Rich
She has been called ‘the Queen of British Burlesque’, a role we can only assume means a whole lot of feathery capes and a crown made of fascinating fascinators. Her act comprises a mix of cabaret, comedy and song, as Ivy teaches you how to live the dream (NB: please keep your personal dreams to yourself, our delicate sensibilities couldn’t handle it).

The Illicit Thrill
House mistress Gypsy Charms leads this evening of burlesque and blues, complete with stripteasers, entertainers, complete with ‘a blend of dark eroticism and a touch of Illicit Thrill humour’. We threw four stars in this show’s direction last year, as our reviewer said ‘Burlesque goes to the dark side with uncompromising and challenging eroticism’. Come to the dark side if you dare.

Swingerella’s Wrecking Ball World Tour
Swingerella came in like a wrecking ball, and paved the way to become a goddess of fabulousness and high priestess of voodoo. In this show, she teams up with fellow burlesque performer Allouetta La Zouch for an hour of fabulous mayhem. According to the show blurb you should bring burnt cake sacrifices, but I’m sure just a regular ticket would do.

Elsie Diamond: The Sensible Dresser
If there’s one thing all burlesque acts are known for, it’s dressing sensibly. Right? This one-woman show is inspired by Elsie’s day job as dresser to the stars (she’s worked in television, opera and theatre), and tells some unique stories through the medium of song and striptease.
