Disney to follow Cinderella with Mulan and Beauty and the Beast

Disney add more films to their live-action remakes including Dumbo and The Jungle Book
Children’s film powerhouse Disney recently released their third live-action version of an animated film, Cinderella. Released in the USA on Fri 13 March, the retelling of the classic rags-to-riches fairy tale starring Lily James and Cate Blanchett has already taken over $151 million at the box office.
Cinderella follows on from the success of Disney’s previous live action films, Alice in Wonderland released in 2010, and last year's reworking of Sleeping Beauty, Maleficent starring Angelina Jolie.
Evidently on to a winning formula, the company have decided to release more adaptations of previously animated films. In 2016 Disney are due to release a new version of The Jungle Book as well as the sequel to Alice in Wonderland. Following that, Beauty and the Beast will be given a revamp with a stellar cast including Emma Watson, Dan Stevens and Audra McDonald. Due to hit cinemas in Mar 2017, the film will be directed by Bill Condon. A remake of Disney tear-jerker Dumbo is also in the works, with Tim Burton enrolled to once again lend his unique touch.
Most recently the studio has announced that Mulan, the Disney film based on the Chinese legend of Hua Mulan, will be given the live-action treatment. A script has been purchased from writing team Elizabeth Martin and Lauren Hynek, with Chris Bender and J C Spink set to produce.
What other animated classics will Disney decide to remake? With a back catalogue including The Little Mermaid, Aladdin and The Lion King there’s plenty to choose from.
Cinderella was released on Fri 27 Mar.
