Easter, a celebration of spring, eggs, cute baby animals and copious amounts of chocolate that once had something to do with the resurrection. Mascot to the festivities is the Easter Bunny, and unlike that pushover Santa who leaves your presents under the tree, the Easter Bunny makes you hunt out your sweet treats.

If your garden isn’t big enough to hide a creme egg then luckily venues across the country are opening their doors over the holiday weekend to offer Easter adventures aplenty for wee people.

In Edinburgh the Royal Botanic Gardens is hosting a traditional Easter Bunny Hunt , solve a series of clues to discover the gold Lindt bunny. If you prefer small dogs to lettuce lovers then Royal Yacht Britannia have catered for you with their Cuddly Corgi Treasure Hunt. Over at the Palace of Holyroodhouse the Fabergé Family Fun Day includes an egg hunt, an activity trail, crafts, stories of the ancient kings of Scotland and the chance to have your face painted like a fabulous Fabergé egg.

Easter theatre more your thing? Dr Bunhead’s Exploding Easter Egg Show comes to Edinburgh International Science Festival with rainbow foam fountains, an Easter egg explosion and a bunny bazooka. If all the baby chicks and frolicking lambs are getting too cute Animation Jam’s Cartoon Animation Workshop allows you to build paper creatures such as two headed bunnies, chocolate egg monsters or Easter chicken spies and bring them to life in a cartoon.

Over in Glasgow theres a nature themed Easter Bunny Hunt at Provanhall House to locate all the rabbits hiding in Todd's Well wood and Parkhead Library are hosting Spring Fun Craft Camp where kids aged 5–11 can make bunny ears, daffodils and Easter cards. For a chance to meet the Easter Bunny himself head to Hard Rock Cafe for Breakfast with the Bunny and enjoy a buffet breaky and Easter games. What would the holiday be without a few sharks and starfish? The Tallship are letting the sea creatures on board this Easter with their Under The Sea Crafts and Creatures of the Deep Challenge. Take part in a daily craft session to make fish, crabs and sharks or head out on the self-led activity hunt.

Across the country National Trust for Scotland have teamed up with chocolate giants Cadbury to offer Easter Egg Trails at 50 venues. Turn eggsplorer as you follow the trail, collect the clues, solve the puzzle and win a Cadbury treat. Elsewhere Camperdown Park are pulling out all the stops for their Easter Fun Day with an equestrian stunt show, falconry display, climbing wall, archery range, sports taster sessions, Horne's Funfair and the Radio Tay Roadshow.

It's all about the egg at Mugdock Country Parks Easter Eggstravaganza where you can put your decorated egg through its paces in the egg rolling race and egg assault course. If you’d like to meet some of spring’s new arrivals Almond Valley is alive with cheeps and bleats of small animals and there’s a springtime trail, crafts and plastic duck race along the mill lade to enjoy as well. Likewise the National Museum of Rural Life offers a chance to see lambs and calves as well as join in the Easter egg trail, meet the Easter Bunny or make a craft project or two.
