Navigating Netflix to find something to watch can be a time-consuming process at the best of times, but with an attention-seeking tweenie or a squabbling brood at your feet it can be near impossible. So we've picked out eight of the best kids films to enjoy on Netflix next time you need a feature-length distraction. In fact, they're so good, we bet you'll end up watching too.

Lilo & Stitch (2002)
One of the most wonderful films ever made about adoption. It features a great Disney female character in the form of bossy loner and Elvis fan, Lilo, who takes in a naughty alien named Stitch. She teaches him all about the true meaning of family.

Monsters, Inc (2001)
In the fourth feature film from Pixar, Billy Crystal is on top form as Mike Wazowski, a one-eyed green monster who works in a factory that processes children’s screams into electricity. When his partner Sulley accidentally brings a child into the monster world all hell breaks loose.

Explorers (1985)
Joe Dante has a knack for making kids’ films that entertain and don’t speak down to their audience. Three teenage boys have an absolute blast on a space adventure and meet aliens who are obsessed with pop culture. Features a young Ethan Hawke and River Phoenix.

Brave (2012)
Pixar’s first leading lady is a Scottish princess named Merida who is awesome at archery. It’s great because it delivers an important message about the pressure women are under to fit into a mould, and the often complicated mother-daughter relationship, in a thoroughly entertaining way.

Toy Story 3 (2010)
Sequels don’t usually impress but this instalment is just as good as the original. Hilarious interplay between Barbie and Ken (voiced by Michael Keaton) is one of the many highlights. A poignant conclusion may have you reaching for the tissues.

Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events (2004)
A darkly funny adaptation of the Lemony Snicket novel, that deals with grief in an accessible manner. It features a young Emily Browning and Liam Aiken as orphaned children who are thrust into the evil hands of Count Olaf (Jim Carrey in various disguises) when their parents die.

Rango (2011)
Johnny Depp voices a pet lizard who gets lost on an American highway in Gore Verbinski’s stunning comic western. Industrial Light & Magic’s first feature animation is fantastically weird and wonderful.

Good Burger (1997)
Nickelodeon’s calamitous duo Kenan and Kel attempt to save the burger joint they work at with comical consequences. Fans of slapstick, SNL regular Kenan Thompson and Less Than Jake should enjoy it.
