Smudge Digital and Glasgow Short Film Festival have partnered up to offer animators and creatives the chance to produce an animated film in just 48 hours. Participants can enter Ani Jam in teams of two to ten, and have just two short days to produce a 30 – 90 second film based on a particular theme.

The competition begins in Glasgow at design hotel Citizen M on Fri 13 Mar at 6.30pm with the finished products premiered at the CCA Sun 15 Mar at 8.30pm. Efforts are then judged by a panel of professional animators, as well as an online public vote, and the winner will be announced within a week.

Two judges have been announced so far: Dana Dorian, one of the four founding partners of Axis Animation and a former winner of Best Animation BAFTA Scotland award, and writer/director/animator Will Anderson whose short ‘The Making of Longbird’ has screened at over 50 film festivals, winning prizes at Warsaw Film Festival, Brooklyn Film Festival and Edinburgh International Film Festival.

Entering Ani Jam not only allows animators the chance to receive feedback from these professionals, but also a chance to build their portfolio and push creative boundaries in a tight time frame. The competition brings exposure, as the final films will be showcased by Ani Jam, Glasgow Short Film Festival and screened outdoors at the Science Centre. Creative directors of Smudge Digital, Nicole Anderson and Lauren Kerr, entered a similar competition after leaving university and the work they produced was picked up by Channel 4. The animated sky’s the limit.
