Once again it's time to get your fright on as Glasgow Film Festival presents three days of terror with FrightFest. As per usual, it's an essential snapshot of the genre with zombies, serial killers and Satanism. We pick out some of 2015's best FrightFest offerings.

Eliza Graves
Director: Brad Anderson
The opening film at this year's Glasgow FrightFest is a UK premiere of Eliza Graves (aka Stonehearst Asylum). Best known for his edgy pitch black thrillers (Session 9 / The Machinist / The Call), Anderson looks to Edgar Allan Poe for dark inspiration. Medical experiments and evil are rife at the Stonehearst institute for the insane. Featuring a strong Brit cast including Kate Beckinsale in the title role alongside Brendan Gleeson, David Thwelis, Ben Kingsley and Michael Caine.

Wyrmwood
Director: Kiah Roache-Turner
The first of two zombie movies at this year's festival (also watch out for [REC] 4 on Sunday night) is an Aussie action adventure that bristles with energy. Riffing on Mad Max for the ultimate undead road movie.

Clown
Director: John Watts
Coulrophobes beware as FrightFest really hits its stride on Saturday, jolting you awake with an early morning screening of Clown. A possessed clown suit transforms family man Kent (Andy Powers) into a child eating demon. It's a ridiculous premise but Clown works because it takes itself very seriously for a very nasty scary movie (what else did you expect from producer Eli Roth?).

Blood & Black Lace
Director: Mario Bava
Retro terror with this shocker from 1963 and a rare chance to catch Mario Bava's classic on the big screen. One of the pioneers of Italian horror and the fevered mind behind Black Sabbath, Bay of Blood and Mask of Satan, Blood & Black Lace is quintessential giallo as a serial killer carves his way through the fashion world.

The Woods
Director: Russell Gomm
The Blair Witch Project wasn't the first found footage film but it popularised the format. This fascinating doc takes you behind the scenes on one of the most influential horror movies of recent years. Love it or hate it, you can't deny it changed the landscape of horror, ushering in Paranormal Activity, Cloverfield and a morass of cheap inferior imitations. World premiere.
