New prime time puppet show Newzoids is set to lampoon politicians and celebrities

Good news for Spitting Image fans: ITV is set to air a new prime time puppet show, which will reunite some of the talent behind the long-running series.

Newzoids features impressions from the likes of Jon Culshaw and Debra Stephenson, and will lampoon a selection of well-known celebrities as well as politicians.

Viewers can expect to see wee puppet versions of Nigel Farage, Boris Johnson, Ed Miliband, David Cameron and Nick Clegg, while other characters to be given the satirical treatment include Ant and Dec, Simon Cowell and Russell Brand.

The six-part series combines a mixture of traditional puppetry with state-of-the-art animation, and will be co-produced by Citrus Television, which was set up by Spitting Image veteran Giles Pilbrow.

Mr Pilbrow said: ‘There is always an appetite for a show like this, but you need the right vehicle. Newzoids is a clever mix of puppetry and animation. It has a real charm and is a mix of old and new.’

Newzoids will air this spring.
