Brilliant trailer showcases highly anticipated and potentially electric film on 80s rap group's rise
Dropping with a bombastic beat is the debut trailer for Straight Outta Compton, the F Gary Gray directed N.W.A biopic, dramatising the birth of the late 80s/early 90s rap group and building up to the 1992 LA Riots.
Ice Cube's son O'Shea Jackson Jr. plays his father in the film, while Corey Hawkins plays Dr. Dre and Jason Mitchell the late Eazy-E. Keep your eye peeled in the trailer for a brief dancing appearance of Keith Stanfield as Snoop Dogg too. The film also looks likely to heavily feature the group's former manager Jerry Heller (Paul Giamatti) who played a crucial role in bring the west coast outfit to global attention.
The trailer includes an extended intro featuring founding members Dre and Cube cruising their old 'hood and reminiscing, and is rumoured to have been shot the night Death Row Records founder Suge Knight was allegedly involved in a hit-and-run incident that left one man dead. Knight has been charged with murder and faces life in jail if found guilty.
It's a Red Band trailer, so comes with a parental advisory warning you'd expect from an N.W.A joint. We can't wait to see this one, with the film currently slated for a Fri 14 Aug release from Universal.
