As a successful young Etonian, Ivo Graham has probably not had much experience of re-sits. Yet, here he is asking a group of lads in his front row to re-arrange themselves to avoid any further disruption. Being a child of privilege this should almost come as second nature, but Graham is not comfortable wielding that sort of power. He’s a stand-up comic after all, the career of choice for those trying to battle the demons of their past. For Graham, this includes living down the hellish shame of being pictured on the front cover of Summer Fields and hoping to avoid any parental confusion between neckwear and contraception.

The show’s title, Bow Ties and Johnnies, reflects his dual struggle with being invited to all the swankiest parties but still struggling to make in-roads with women. It’s also there to direct us towards one of the finest jokes in his hour, a typically elegant set-up and delivery of conflicting images and ideas. He’s also one of the few comics on the Fringe who can get away with a phrase such as ‘a mouthful of grouse’.

The sky really should be the limit for Ivo Graham. And not because he has cash burning holes in his red trousers or because he knows someone who knows someone else up the ranks. He just so happens to be an excellent stand-up comedian.
