A round-up of the best artists to follow on social media for regular virtual gigs and livestreamed music content

With everyone staying home to help flatten the curve of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and all live music cancelled for the foreseeable future, many artists have been turning to social media to stay connected to their fans. Here are just some of the artists who have been regularly posting content and entertaining us while in isolation.

Death Cab For Cutie
Death Cab For Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard has been performing weekly Live from Home Shows on Instagram to entertain fans and also recently played a few songs from his home for NPR Music's Tiny Desk series. Death Cab drummer Jason McGerr is also hosting drum lessons with guest drummers from other popular bands.

Tim Baker
The Canadian singer, songwriter and former Hey Rosetta! frontman has been regularly posting videos from his living room including performances of both his solo material and old Hey Rosetta! songs. Baker also recently started sharing live readings from some of his favourite books.

Andrew Bird
American songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Andrew Bird has been prolific in isolation, releasing a new live video from his home almost every single day. His music, usually full of violin, looping and whistling, is like a warm blanket.

Elbow
The members of Elbow have been collaborating from their separate homes to record live performances of some of their favourite songs and posting them to their Instagram. So far they have performed 'Weightless' and 'Great Expectations' and the band is taking requests from fans for their next live video.

Arkells
Arkells frontman Max Kerman is hosting a 'Flatten the Curve Music Class' on the band's Instagram every day at 6pm GMT in which he teaches followers how to play Arkells songs on guitar and catches up with a variety of other artists and personalities. Max encourages fans to work on a creative project and upload it with #FTCMusicClassic and for every submission, Royal Bank of Canada is donating $100 to Food Banks Canada, up to $25,000.

Dan Mangan
The Juno-award winning Canadian singer-songwriter is posting regularly on Instagram, sharing a new song 'Soapbox' and even treating followers to a live reading of The Princess Bride film script. Mangan is a co-founder of Side Door and is also now hosting weekly ticketed interactive shows with fans on Zoom every Saturday, with all funds raised donated to various charities.

Laura Marling
The British singer-songwriter has been teaching her fans how to play guitar by hosting live 'Isolation Guitar Tutorials' on her Instagram every Thu and Sun at 7pm GMT.

Dermot Kennedy
The rapidly rising singer and songwriter was forced to cancel his upcoming tour supporting his debut album, but Dermot Kennedy is making the most of isolation back home in Ireland, comforting his Instagram and Facebook followers with moving live videos which also occasionally feature his big sleepy dog Riggins.

Hozier
The Irish singer and songwriter best known for his hit 'Take Me to Church' has been busy raising awareness and funds for various charities around the world, sharing the intimate livestream performances on his Facebook and Instagram.

Frank Turner
The British songwriter was supposed to be touring Australia and New Zealand right now, but has been keeping busy participating in a number of livestreams on his Facebook and Instagram pages to support various charities and independent venues.

Snow Patrol
Snow Patrol frontman Gary Lightbody has been entertaining Instagram followers with a flurry of live acoustic shows over the past month, taking requests and votes for both Snow Patrol songs and covers. He is now hosting a #saturdaysongwrite on Instagram Live, taking suggestions from fans in the comments for lyrics and chords.

Miley Cyrus
The pop star has been hosting a new daily live show entitled Bright Minded featuring special celebrity guests including Ellen Degeneres, Reese Witherspoon and Selena Gomez. Bright Minded is posted on Cyrus' Instagram from Mon–Fri at 7.30pm GMT.

Anderson .Paak
The American singer rapper has been hosting dance parties on Instagram from his home with his young son. He's aptly titled the dance parties #Fridance and they are absolutely delightful.

Paul Simon
The music legend has been entertaining his Instagram followers with some live videos in recent weeks including an acoustic version of the Simon & Garfunkel classic 'The Boxer', which he dedicated to fellow New Yorkers and a cover of The Everly Brothers' classic 'I Wonder if I Care as Much' alongside his wife Edie Brickell.

The Tallest Man on Earth
Swedish singer and songwriter Kristian Matsson (known as The Tallest Man on Earth) has been posting plenty of material on his Instagram, including covers of Bob Dylan and Wilco songs. He has also started doing live streams on his YouTube page and plans to do an Instagram live banjo and Q&A next week for kids.

James Vincent McMorrow
The Irish singer and songwriter has been doing regular livestreams on his Instagram and will perform his entire debut album, Early in the Morning, live on YouTube on Thu 9 Apr at 6pm GMT.

The Snuts
The Scottish band have posted collaborative covers on their Instagram of Marvin Gaye's 'Ain't No Mountain High Enough' and Bon Iver's 'Hey Ma' so far, while frontman Jack Cochrane also did a solo acoustic cover of Bob Dylan's 'Make You Feel My Love' (also famously covered by Adele).

The Coronas
The Irish rock band's frontman Danny O'Reilly has been regularly sharing his renditions of songs by other Irish bands including The Cranberries, Glen Hansard, Bell X1, Villagers and Niall Horan on Instagram.

Johnny Marr
The former Smiths guitarist has been doing live Q&A sessions with fans on his Instagram and taking requests for some of his most famous songs and guitar riffs.

Rufus Wainwright
The singer-songwriter has been posting a new live video performance on his Instagram every day since 17 Mar. Wainwright is also performing a live show tonight (Thu 9 Apr) for the first show in the Royal Albert Home series.

Emili Sande
The England-born and Scotland-raised singer and songwriter has been sharing live performances from her home on Instagram, including a Together at Home performance with Global Citizen and World Health Organization (WHO).

Tim Burgess
The Charlatans frontman has been hosting a daily Twitter Listening Party, which celebrates classic albums as well as newer releases. Just log on to Twitter at the specified time, and enjoy live tweets from the band and fans as you listen to the album in question. Upcoming albums include Libertines' Up The Bracket (Tue 14 Apr, 10pm), Sleaford Mods' Austerity Dogs (Thu 16 Apr, 8pm) and Fontaines DC's Dogrel (Thu 16 Apr, 10pm).

Anthony Green
The Circa Survive frontman has been hosting regular gigs on his Twitch channel, performing Circa songs, as well as solo tracks and fun covers. He's also asked fans to send in poems, lyrics and chord ideas using the hashtag #letswriteasongtogether1 on Twitter, with the aim of writing a collaborative song. The results have been pretty terrific so far.

Nylon Magazine
Nylon have started a new series on Instagram called WFH Deep Cuts, where musicians hop on IGTV live from their homes. Recent guests have included Hinds, All Time Low and mxmtoon, with more to be announced.

Best Coast
Bethany Cosentino of Best Coast has started her own 'Bethline' on Instagram, where she hosts a little get together and chat with special guests about everything going on in the world. Check out her Instagram every Wednesday at 11pm GMT and email her at [email protected] to get your questions answered live.

Rolling Stone
Rolling Stone's new In My Room IGTV series features a range of musicians performing tracks live from their homes. New episodes launch three times a week at 7pm GMT, with recent guests including Waxahatchee, Steve Earle and Nathaniel Rateliff.

Siobhan Wilson
The brilliant Siobhan Wilson has started hosting regular livestreamed gigs from her home, connecting with fans all over the world. You can attend her virtual gigs for only £3 a month over at patreon.com/fanspace.

Optimo
The Glaswegian party-starters have created the Optimo House Party, for folk missing their local clubs and wanting a wee dance in their kitchen. Check their Facebook page for future updates.

Sophie Ellis-Bextor
Pop queen Sophie Ellis-Bextor has been hosting a fun Kitchen Disco live on IGTV, with colourful outfits, backing dancers (her kids) and all her best hits.

Sofi Tukker
NY electronic duo Sofi Tukker are doing DJ sets from their Instagram live every day at 5pm GMT, with fun edits and epic tunes for all tastes.

D-Nice
DJ Derrick 'D-Nice' Jones has amassed plenty of followers by hosting his regular Club Quarantine on his Instagram, where he unites the world with his marathon DJ sets. Michelle Obama and Oprah are amongst fans.

H.E.R.
H.E.R. (aka Gabriella Wilson) recently announced her Girls With Guitars weekly Instagram series. Starting on Mon 6 Apr, each episode will feature a live performance from H.E.R. plus conversations, covers and fan requests.

Diplo
California DJ Diplo's Instagram Live DJ sets have been extremely popular with fans, with guests so far including Major Lazer, Dillon Francis and Orville Peck.

Brendan Benson
The American musician and Raconteurs band member takes to his Instagram daily at 9.20pm GMT to play a song, from old favourites to covers and new songs from his upcoming album Dear Life.

Metronomy
Join Metronomy frontman Joe Mount for weekly 'MTV' sessions on Instagram on Mondays at 7pm GMT, where special guests dial in and audiences are treated to live performances, chats, recipes, games and more.

Tolbooth
Stirling's venue for live music and the arts was forced to close temporarily, but they're not letting it stop them from bringing music to the people. The venue has organised the Tolbooth Saturday Shindig, a weekly live stream on their Facebook page. Upcoming participating acts include Carla J Easton, Man of Moon and James Yorkston.

Nick Mulvey
The British singer and 2014 Mercury Prize nominee is live streaming guitar lessons on his Instagram, teaching his fans how to play his songs including 'Fever to the Form'.

Josh Ritter
Cheerful American folk singer Josh Ritter is doing weekly live streams called The Silo Sessions and recently performed his popular album The Animal Years in its entirety to raise funds for the Food Bank for New York City.

Glen Hansard
The Irish singer known for his work with The Frames and The Swell Season recently performed an intimate live set from his home on his personal Instagram page and hinted that he would do another set to celebrate his 50th birthday on 21 Apr.

Fatboy Slim
The iconic DJ let his 10 year-old daughter 'Fat Girl Slim' take the reins for a live DJ set from their home broadcasted on Facebook, with a little help from dad of course. He has also been sharing 'Lockdown Mixtapes'.
