If you caught the Letter from our Editor, which was published online last week, you'll know that we managed to successfully get our April / May issue off to print, despite the many coronavirus-related hurdles that appeared in the run up. Thanks to the quick-thinking and hard work of the brilliant team of section editors, designers, sub editors and writers, we've created an issue we're proud of but one we probably won't forget in a hurry …

Readers of The List can expect the usual quality content but with a slightly different focus than they may be used to. As so many events were cancelled or postponed as a result of the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, we decided to turn our attention to helping folk stuck at home with recommendations on things to watch, listen to and read. Our A–Z of entertainment will hopefully help with this, as will our features on upcoming book releases, kids' TV to stream and all that great new music out there to check out.

Our April / May issue also traditionally includes our Guide to Scotland's Islands, created in association with CalMac. While the Guide went to press before news of the coronavirus broke, we hope that it will provide some inspiration for future travel to the islands on the west coast. At the moment, government advice is that people should not travel to Scotland's islands unless you live there or your journey is essential. Given the seriousness of the challenges facing island communities, we urge readers to follow that advice but we hope the Guide will remind us all of the delights to be found there, as well as the west of Scotland welcome you expect and love.
