EIFF launches new Works in Progress Award as well as opening applications for various internship positions

Edinburgh International Film Festival returns for its 74th edition on Wed 17 June. One of UK's most prominent moving image extravaganzas is yet to announce the full programme of the festival (this will happen on 27 May), however there is some news worth getting excited about.

EIFF Works in Progress Award has been running since 2016 but this year the festival has begun a new partnership with One Bright Dot, a post-production facility specialising in Grade, Motion Graphics, VFX and Audio. The new collaboration also means £20,000 of funding will go to the most promising project for use against a future production. The award's aim is to support UK filmmakers with the creation, completion and distribution of their pieces. The festival selects ten projects to be presented to a varied audience and awards the winning project with a £2,500 cash prize.

EIFF Works in Progress will take place on Sun 21 June and the winning team will follow the creative teams behind the likes of Cat in the Wall, Jellyfish and Us Among the Stones.

Holly Daniel, Head of Industry and Talent at EIFF said: 'We're delighted to welcome One Bright Dot on board as a sponsor of EIFF Works in Progress. EWiP has become an important element of the EIFF Industry programme, providing an important platform for UK independent filmmakers to get their work seen by key decision makers.'

The festival's annual Internship Programme is also officially open and waiting for applications from anyone new and interested in the industry. The festival offers various positions within multiple departments so whether you are in love with films, curious about how a festival works or just devoted to event organisation, this is the place to be during summer. Twelve internships are available for up to three months across all of EIFF's key departments, which will aim to teach the tricks of the trade behind the scenes, guided by talented mentors along the way.

As the EIFF Head of Development, Juliet Tweedie, says: 'EIFF's Internship Programme is a unique scheme providing focused and bespoke training and mentoring support so participants can gain cultural work experience and transferable skills. We're committed to making sure these opportunities are accessible to a wide range of people, and are proud to be a Real Living Wage employer. It's a brilliant opportunity to be part of the EIFF team and discover the many different career opportunities in festivals and events.'
