We can’t lie, we’re a wee bit excited. As if it weren’t sufficient that electro-poppers Pet Shop Boys are headlining this year’s New Year’s Eve street party jamboree in Edinburgh, a clutch of darn fine local heroes have been added to the supporting mix. In the wake of a mighty fine touring schedule both sides of the pond, BBC Sound of 2013 contenders Chvrches will join Mercury Prize nominees Django Django on the Waverley Stage.

Joining the Pet Shop Boys at the Concert in the Gardens will be Mancunian art-pop quartet The 1975, plus Swedish-Scottish popstar-in-the-making Nina Nesbitt and Edinburgh indie posse The 10:04s.

The Scottish contingent just keeps on coming in the guise of punk rockers The Rezillos, in what’s shaping up to be a royally good night for the street party’s 21st birthday year.

Fence Collective founder King Creosote will take to the Scottish stage on Frederick Street with his band, along with Glasgow-based Celtic group Treacherous Orchestra and Shetland collective Fiddlers’ Bid.

Around 80,000 people are expected to turn up on New Year’s Eve to enjoy music and entertainment over five different stages, with the precinct next to the Scottish National Gallery set to host an open-air ceilidh dance space, and more names will be announced for the stage on top of The Mound.

Edinburgh’s Hogmanay artistic director Pete Irvine said of this year’s line-up: ‘Scotland’s big year starts here and what better way to launch ourselves into the New Year than with a showcase of Scotland’s musical talent in the home of Hogmanay.’

Edinburgh’s full Hogmanay festival runs from Mon 30 Dec–Wed 1 Jan. For more information and interviews, look out for The List’s upcoming Winter in Edinburgh Guide.
