Sunshine on Leith, the new musical inspired by the songs of The Proclaimers, is set for release on Fri 4 Oct, and has already been picking up some strong reviews (not least from ourselves). The film was largely shot in Edinburgh, showcasing some of the city's spectacular architecture and scenery – and, with the assistance of this specially-produced location map, you can see which local spots were used at specific points in the film.
Sunshine on Leith tells the story of two friends who find civilian life tough after returning from Afghanistan, and features performances from Peter Mullan, Jane Horrocks, Kevin Guthrie, George MacKay, Paul Brannigan and Freya Mavor.
It's not the only movie to use Edinburgh as a prominent feature: David Mackenzie's 2007 drama, Hallam Foe, had Jamie Bell observing panoramic views of the city from a clock tower atop The Balmoral Hotel, while Maggie Smith was filmed in a Hibs pub on the Grassmarket for the 1969 adaptation of Muriel Spark's 1961 novella, The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie. Few of us will forget Ewan McGregor's sprint along Princes Street in Danny Boyle's Trainspotting, while another Irvine Welsh adaptation, Filth, is set to use the city is similarly disreputable ways.
Sunshine on Leith is on general release from Fri 4 Oct 2013.
