New trailer for The Railway Man, starring Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman
The film tells the story of Eric Lomax, an Edinburgh-born soldier in WWII
A new trailer has landed for drama The Railway Man, starring Colin Firth, Nicole Kidman, Stellan Skarsgard and War Horse's Jeremy Irvine, and directed by Jonathan Teplitzky. It's based on the autobiography of the same name by Eric Lomax, an Edinburgh-born officer in the British Army who was interned in a Japanese prisoner of war camp in 1942 and forced to help build the Burma Railway. The movie shows, in flashback, the hardships and torture Lomax underwent at the hands of his captors – and how he tracked down and confronted one of them 50 years later.
Both Firth and Irvine are taking on the role of Lomax (Irvine playing the soldier during his war years), while Kidman plays his wife, Patti, who was instrumental in helping him come to terms with his post-war trauma. Parts of the film were shot on location in Edinburgh and North Berwick, where Firth and co-writer Frank Cottrell Boyce met Lomax before he died in 2012.
The Railway Man is due for release on Fri 3 Jan 2014.
