The Garage

Scotland’s biggest club has been around for 18 years, providing tomfoolery 365 days a year. The big, friendly space houses five rooms mixing it up, from indie and alt.rock to chart and pop. Monday throws you a games room with old-school consoles; Wednesday is karaoke night and Thursday means Neverland, with giveaways and surprises (including bouncy castles).

The Sub Club

This bad boy has been servicing Glasgow’s electronic needs since 1987, so it knows what it’s doing. The finest house DJs across the city get together for the flagship Saturday’s Subculture, the longest running house and techno night in the country. There’s something on almost every night of the week, enticing you to head out, including the Subculture Vs Optimo Boat Party (7 Sep).

La Cheetah

In the basement of Max’s in the Merchant City, La Cheetah throws out a mix of electro, dubstep, techno and house. The club is on the cosy side of cavernous, with its DJ booth the centre of attention, but these intimate surrounds are the perfect backdrop for the seriously impressive big name guests they attract. Drinks are cheap and the unusual bar snacks are particularly tasty.

Best Nights

All the Rage

A properly cool night at Blackfriars, with the emphasis on serious dancing. It’s a mix of indie, post-punk, garage, indie pop, northern soul, pop and other delights. The regular DJs really know their stuff and among the likes of Le Tigre, Belle and Sebastian and The Cramps, you’ll also find stone-cold floorfillers from Beyoncé and Daft Punk. Go, and feel your hip levels increase tenfold just by setting foot in the place.

Huntley & Palmer’s Audio Club

Since 2007, Huntley & Palmer’s Audio Club has been serving up intelligent techno, wonky electro and many more genres besides. As such, the names they attract are suitably varied: previous guests include Tom Trago, Ewan Pearson, Traxx and Trevor Jackson. Lined up for the rest of the year are Permanent Vacation, Hieroglyphic Being and James Pants.

Pressure

Big room, big name house and techno events at Glasgow’s most impressive club space, The Arches, courtesy of Slam events, the team behind the Slam Tent at T in the Park. The Arches is something of a legend in Glasgow clubbing lore, and as soon as you step through the door you see why. This huge monthly residency features some big name guests, including the likes of Laurent Garnier and Jeff Mills.
