No longer just home to a vast back catalogue of TV programmes and films Netflix have become a much respected production powerhouse. Responding to binge watching culture by dumping entire series on a single day so viewers can watch when and how they want, trashing the idea of TV schedules and week long waits between episodes. From the fourth season of the ground breaking House of Cards via their continuing collaboration with Marvel to big budget features like War Machine, 2016 looks like their biggest year yet when it comes to exclusive content. Mixing brand new movies with original series and global streaming rights for some of the most anticipated television of the year.

Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments (13 Jan) – The Mortal Instruments movie didn't quite create the teen franchise everyone hoped for, now it's back in TV form as Netflix brings the US series to the UK. Expect glossy supernatural thrills in this adaptation of Cassandra Clare's YA book series.

Better Call Saul, Season 2 (16 Feb) – The Breaking Bad spin off returns with Bob Odenkirk in the title role. Screened on AMC in the US but available exclusively via Netflix in the UK.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny (26 Feb) – This martial arts sequel will be released simultaneously on Netflix and IMAX. Michelle Yeoh returns as Yu Shu Lien as director Yuen Woo-ping takes over from Ang Lee.

House of Cards, Season 4 (4 Mar) – HoC was the show that proved VOD could compete with their broadcast revivals when it came to original content. Back for a fourth season packed with nefarious political dealings as Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) returns.

Marvel's Daredevil, Season 2 (18 Mar) – After the critical acclaim it's no surprise to see a second series following blind lawyer turned street vigilante Matt Murdock / Daredevil (Charlie Cox).

Pee-wee's Big Holiday (March) – Paul Reubens' cult 80s/90s kid's character returns after over 20 years for another kooky upbeat feature film adventure.

The Ranch (Apr 1) – Ashton Kutcher reunites with That 70s Show co-star Danny Masterson in this brand new comedy about a semi-pro footballer who returns home to help run the family ranch.

Marseille (5 May) – Netflix first French language original series. Gerard Depardieu plays the mayor of a town in southern France desperate to hold onto power in upcoming elections in this political drama that, unsurprisingly, has already been compared to House of Cards.

Grace & Frankie, Season 2 (6 May) – Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin reprise their roles as bickering friends brought together when their husbands leave them (for each other).

BoJack Horseman, Season 3 (July tbc) – Third season of satirical misadventures starring everyone's favourite anthropomorphic animated horse (voiced by Will Arnett).

The Get Down (12 Aug) – Not many details have been released concerning the plot of Baz Lurman's lavish 70s set New York musical following the lives of a group of Bronx teenagers, but expect disco, funk and early hip hop (especially as Mamoudou Athie has been cast as Grandmaster Flash).

The Crown (date tbc) – After The Queen and Frost/Nixon writer Peter Morgan tackles the British Royal Family in historical drama The Crown, starring Claire Foy as Princess Elizabeth, Matt Smith as Philip Mountbatten and John Lithgow as Winston Churchill.

Jadotville (date tbc) – Another original movie from Netflix this time telling the true story of the 1961 siege of an Irish UN battalion as they faced over 3000 Congolese troops. Based on the book by Declan Power and starring Jamie Dornan and Mark Strong.

Marvel's Luke Cage (date tbc) – The third Marvel character to get the Netflix treatment. Mike Colter made his debut as Cage in Jessica Jones but now toplines his own series as the hero for hire with unbreakable skin.

Mascots (date tbc) – Christopher Guest (the genius behind This is Spinal Tap, A Mighty Wind and Best in Show) with a new feature length mockumentary where: 'a group of "unusual" men and women, with big heads and furry suits, compete to win the prestigious Gold Fluffy Award and be crowned Best Mascot in the World.'

Stranger Things (date tbc) – Sci-fi drama as a mother (Winona Ryder) is dragged into a world of government conspiracies and supernatural forces as she searches for her son after he mysteriously disappeared in Indiana in 1983.

War Machine (date tbc) – Satirical film based on Michael Hastings' book The Wild and Terrifying Inside Story of America's War in Afghanistan. Featuring a particularly starry cast including Brad Pitt, Will Poulter and Topher Grace.
