There are no pretensions about the unashamed geekiness of Festival of the Spoken Nerd: the trio who lead this celebration of all things smart already have their cards proudly stamped, coming from separate pursuits (Matt Parker – Things You Need to Know; Helen Arney – Infinite Monkey Cage and Steve Mould – Britains Brightest Street Scientist) to produce the nerd show to end all nerd shows.

FotSN is a little bit comedy and a little bit High School science class, if your teachers were genuinely witty and not yet jaded by their specialties of choice. Each majors in a different subject: Mould in experiments (with help from a disco ball, he creates a spinning fire tornado); Arney in sharp-witted love songs to science plucked off on ukulele; and Parker (comedy mathematician) with the world's first self-correcting binary knitted scarf.

The show itself is loveably shambolic – not everything goes as it ought, but in this the essence of nerdity is encapsulated and their love for their craft (both comedy and science) burns as bright as the pickle they electrify to demonstrate sodium streetlamps.
