Fringe by the Sea announces its first wave of musical acts

The North Berwick festival welcomes Basement Jaxx, Candi Staton and more to its 2020 line-up
Multi-arts festival Fringe by the Sea enters the new decade with its 13th edition, bringing a diverse line-up of musicians, comedians, authors and more to the East Lothian town of North Berwick. The full programme will feature over 160 events across genres at a variety of venues, including music workshops, open mic sessions, guided walks and art exhibitions.
Sponsored by Mactaggart & Mickel and Curious Brewing, category sponsors Simpson and Marwick, The Lighthouse and affiliates McInroy & Wood, Shaw with The List as a media partner, Fringe by the Sea aims to showcase a variety of high profile acts alongside local talent, working closely with local partners such as the Scottish Seabird Centre and NB Movies.
The full programme is still under wraps, but the first six musical acts have just been announced. To headline the opening night (Fri 7 Aug) with a fantastic DJ set, Fringe by the Sea has recruited electronic duo Basement Jaxx, comprised of Felix Buxton and Simon Ratcliffe. American singer/songwriter Candi Staton will grace the Big Spiegeltent on Fri 14 Aug with her genre-defying talent, while Fun Lovin' Criminals frontman Huey Morgan is joined by Dat Brass the following evening (Sat 15 Aug) for his NYC block party.
For the folk rock fans, Fringe by the Sea offers up Peat & Diesel in The Lighthouse Spiegeltent (Fri 14 Aug), as the Big Spiegeltent welcomes The Blues Band (Wed 12 Aug) in its 40th anniversary year. The North Berwick Fry and various locations across the town join these two Spiegeltents as the hub of the festival.
Jackie Shuttleworth, General Manager of Fringe By The Sea, says: 'We're really pleased to have secured these artists to kick start the festival programme. Over the next few months we will be adding dozens more acts to the line up for Fringe By The Sea, which is now a firm fixture in the Scottish festival scene.
'As a not for profit organisation, we rely on the generous support of our funders and sponsors to help make the festival happen. We say a big thank you to those who've committed their support once again, and we are thrilled to welcome on board Mactaggart & Mickel as Master Sponsor. Their support will help us deliver an extra special festival experience for our 25,000 visitors.'
