Out with the new, in with the old: a weekend to party like it's 1939

Festivals? They’re so last century. No, really. Scotland’s first Vintage Festival (Glasgow, Sat 27-Sun 28 Jul), run by Red Or Dead’s Wayne Hemingway, takes a Quickstep back in time to somewhere between the 1920s and the 1980s and revels in the fashion, music, food, beauty and film of a bygone age.

Go full flapper with the help of some 1920s scran and authentic dance instruction at the Charleston Brunch (Old Fruitmarket, Sat 27 Jul), continuing the theme with the Great Gatsby 1920s Fashion Show (City Halls, Sun 28 Jul). If you still can't get enough of drop waists and beaded headwear (other decades are available), try the Vintage Marketplace (Candleriggs, Sat 27--Sun 28 Jul) for some top browsing and rummaging.

Jump forward a fashion moment or two and attract the attention of a GI at the 1940s Torch Club (Old Fruitmarket, Sun 28 Jul), where you can blow a few ration coupons on getting your hair did like a member of La Résistance and dance the foxtrot with the help of an 18-piece swing orchestra.

There's no focus on one particular period; instead, the weekend time travels from inter-war through to 50s rock'n'roll, 70s soul and 80s disco. Basically it's a chance get togged to the bricks without being a stool pigeon, ya dig? Well, you might as well enter properly into the spirit of the thing.

Various venues (Merchant City, Glasgow), Sat 27--Sun 28 Jul.
