Held annually in Dumfries, the Big Burns Supper is the largest contemporary Burns celebration in the world. The ninth edition of the festival is set to include 114 events across 11 days this year, running from Thu 23 Jan to Sun 2 Feb.

The festival marks Robert Burns' birth with a vast selection of music, dance, cabaret, poetry and family events. Musicians, performers and attendees will raise a wee dram to Scotland's national bard in the place he called home.

The eclectic music programme includes everything from folk to trip hop and rock to gospel. The biggest party of the festival, Burns Night Live (Sat 25 Jan), will include performances by Scottish folk band RURA, Dumfries metal band Turbyne, young singer-songwriter Kate Kyle and Scotland's own twelve-piece Band of Burns, with English folk-pop singer Newton Faulkner closing the night.

Other notable music headliners throughout the festival include blues master Keb' Mo' (Fri 24 Jan), acclaimed Royal Wedding performers The Kingdom Choir (Sat 25 Jan), English folk rock band Turin Brakes (Wed 29 Jan), London electronic duo Morcheeba (Thu 30 Jan), indie folk quintet Elephant Sessions (Sat 1 Feb), and beloved Stornoway trio Peat & Diesel (Sun 2 Feb).

Cabaret is another strong component of the festival programme, with the highlight being Big Burns Supper's own production of the Scottish national treasure, Le Haggis. There will also be two special kid-friendly performances of the cabaret, Family Le Haggis. Additional family events in the programme include a silent disco and Nick Sharrat's popular Shark in the Park.

On Fri 31 Jan, artists, poets and songwriters will join together with locals for Europa Picnic, composing a community-wide poem marking the UK's potential last days in the European union.

With a fantastic line-up and so many special events scheduled, there is no better time to visit and explore Dumfries than during the Big Burns Supper festival.
