Five great Christmas markets in Edinburgh and Glasgow

The Lighthouse, Summerhall, Hillhead Book Club and more host festive markets this winter
Design Supermarkets
A city centre market, upstairs at The Lighthouse. These two events will feature a range of sellers from the worlds of art, design and fashion, giving you two December dates to make a dent in your Christmas shopping list.
The Lighthouse, Glasgow, Sat 8 & 22 Dec, see the Lighthouse's Facebook page for updates.
Edinburgh Printmakers Christmas Multiples Market
We’d be lying if we didn’t admit we’re rather looking forward to this little gem, as visitors are invited to eat mince pies, drink mulled wine and buy prints, notebooks, badges and more.
Edinburgh Printmakers, Sun 2 Dec, 11am, edinburgh-printmakers.co.uk
Noir! A Christmas Fair
Billed as ‘a fashion, food and cultural extravaganza’ this one's brought to you by the organisers behind Edinburgh International Fashion Festival, and is happening in the multipurpose arts space once known as the Dick Vet School, aka Summerhall.
Summerhall, Edinburgh, Sat 8 & Sun 9 Dec, 11am–7pm.
Portobello Makers Market
More pleasant than battling the Princes Street crowds, this market by the seaside showcases wares from local designers.
Portobello Town Hall, Portobello High Street, Edinburgh, Sat 24 Nov & Sat 15 Dec, 11am–4pm. See themakersmarkets.co.uk for info on other Makers Markets dates.
Granny Would Be Proud
This one's a regular Sunday market, but the dates are worth remembering in the run-up to Christmas, whether you need accessories for a night-out, or gift ideas.
Hillhead Book Club, 17 Vinicombe St, Glasgow, 0141 576 1700; Sun 18 & Sun 25 Nov; Sun 1, 9, 16 & 23 Dec. See hillheadbookclub.com for more information.
