Book Week Scotland 2012

A selection of events taking place across Scotland from 26 Nov-2 Dec

Book Week Scotland celebrates Scottish literature nationwide both past and present. Run by the Scottish Book Trust, it aims to inspire future Scottish readers and writers. Events run all day throughout the week of Mon 26 Nov-Fri 2 Dec across the country.

Talks from authors includes world-renowned Scottish sci-fi writer Iain M Banks discussing his work and new release The Hydrogen Sonata in the intimate confines of Loch Leven Library. If sci-fi isn’t your thing, 2006 Man Booker shortlisted novelist James Robertson talks about slavery in the Scottish Enlightenment in the stunning St. Giles Cathedral (he also hosts a more personal talk about his life, work and awards the day after in Uddingston Library). There will be a chance to catch iconic Tartan Noir author Lin Anderson discussing her work, future projects and Scottish literature at East Kilbride's Central Library too.

There are plenty events for kids, with zany comic Jonathan Meres reading family-friendly stories at Glasgow's Mitchell Library. Kids are also welcome to try their hands at reading and creating with Metaphrog’s Graphic Novel Workshop, taking place at Musselburgh Library. Other highlights include Margaret Bennett talking Scottish folklore and song at Edinburgh's Oxgangs Library; Alasdair Gray’s short stories book launch at Summerhall; and the annual Hotchpotch Dundee Literary Pub Quiz. With talks from dozens of famous authors and over two hundred free and child-friendly events, there’s definitely something for everyone.
