The Jill Todd Photography Award to recognise Scotland's finest new photographic talent

When budding photographer Jill Todd tragically died in 2010, after receiving a first-class honours degree in Photography and Film the year before, her family and friends were determined to do something in her memory, and this year launch The Jill Todd Photography Award, a new national photography award for Scotland.
The Award will hold its inaugural private show at Whitespace on Fri 2 Nov, in Edinburgh, showcasing the three front-runners selected from an open submission to the JTPA, with the winner being announced on the night. The exhibition will then run at the gallery space until Sun 11 Nov.
The shortlisted trio include Caroline Alexander, Nick Paton and Tamara and Yoshi Kametani.
Alexander's project 'Belonging' explores the feelings experienced when leaving home; Paton's project 'Inherited' takes the theme of memory and loss as its starting point, while Tamara and Yoshi Kametani's project, 'In search of the Crying Lady' explores the role of professional mourners.
As well as prizes of £500 for 1st, £300 for 2nd and £200 for 3rd, the winners will have their work printed and framed for the exhibition, and be given the opportunity to take part in a nine-month mentoring programme.
