Grand days out Summer 2012: Find fabulous festivals, captivating coastlines and intriguing islets

Highlights of Aberdour Festival and Pittenweem Arts Festival

From the enchanting myths and legends of the western isles to the alluring festivals of the east coast, inspiration abounds along Scotland’s coastline and you don’t have to go far from the city to find yourself amid inspiring surroundings that will easily tease out your creative side.

Just north of the capital in Fife, the charming fishing villages that hug the East Neuk coastline come alive with music, theatre and dance as arts festivals flourish throughout the region. This month welcomes Aberdour Festival and Pittenweem Arts Festival.

Or make a weekend of it and head to Skye to discover the grassy knolls, looming branches and circle formations that make up the captivating Faerie Glen. Nearby, Dunvegan Castle continues the story of the Faeries. For an island adventure closer to home, discover sculptures dotted around the woodland as part of the Calgary Art Nature project on the Isle of Mull.
