Olympic Torch Relay - Scottish route and dates

Information on Scottish leg of the Olympic Torch's journey around the UK

Having toured through various towns and cities in England and Wales, the Olympic Torch relay is set to head to Scotland, starting at Stranraer on Fri 8 Jun and heading up the west coast (via Robert Burns' birthplace in Ayr) to Glasgow.

The city will celebrate the torch’s arrival with a multi-arts programme at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum from 1.30-6pm and a George Square performance from Eliza Doolittle, Emeli Sandé and General Fiasco.

The torch will then travel around the country, taking in Inverness, Orkney and Shetland (Sun 10), the Isle of Lewis (Mon 11), Aberdeen (Mon 11 & Tue 12) and Dundee (Tue 12) before reaching Edinburgh on Wed 13 Jun. The capital’s torch celebrations will feature another performance by Emeli Sandé at Edinburgh Castle as well as a variety of acrobatic and dance acts. This two-hour long show will also include the chance to have your photo taken with the torch, which will remain overnight in Edinburgh before travelling through Midlothian and the Borders to reach Newcastle on Sat 16 Jun.

The torch's journey will come to an end on Sat 27 Jul when it reaches the Olympic Stadium in London and will be used to light the Olympic Cauldron, marking the beginning of the Games.

The Glasgow Torch Celebration is free and requires no booking.
Tickets for the event at Edinburgh Castle are now sold out.
