A time-travel romcom with impeccable indie credentials

It's not often we get to have a look at US indie trailers well in advance of their release - smaller-budget films from outside the UK are less certain of overseas distribution, so we often don't hear about them until they're practically upon us. However, we're feeling pretty confident about Safety Not Guaranteed.

The film stars Aubrey Plaza (who you may recognize from US sitcom Parks and Recreation, or perhaps from her supporting roles in Scott Pilgrim vs The World and Funny People) as Darius, a magazine intern who gets taken along on an investigative assignment. The subject of the article is Kenneth (mumblecore icon Mark Duplass, who also produces), a grocery store shelf-stacker who placed the following classified ad: 'Wanted: Someone to go back in time with me. This is not a joke. You'll get paid after we get back. Must bring your own weapons. Safety not guaranteed. I have only done this once before.'

Aside from it's intriguing premise, the main reason we're confident about SNG's ability to travel is its impeccable indie credentials: between them, the various producers have worked on The Squid and the Whale, Little Miss Sunshine and the forthcoming Jeff Who Lives at Home, and Duplass' Humpday compadre Lynn Shelton even pops in for a cameo. Oh, and there's the small matter of the film garnering a Screenwriting Award at this year's Sundance Festival, as well as a whole heap of praise from visiting critics.

Have a watch of the trailer and see what you think. It's due for release in the States on Fri 8 Jun - let's hope the UK isn't too far behind.
