A multicultural musical voyage with performers from China and Scotland

Asian Association of Commerce, Culture and Education in Europe is once again pleased to present the official Chinese New Year Concert at the Usher Hall on Tue 21 Jan 2020. The Chinese New Year, known as the Spring Festival, will be celebrated on stage by the Edinburgh Symphony Orchestra, the Edinburgh Singers and many outstanding artists and soloists from China and Scotland.

Featured among these artists are the Guizhou Song and Dance Ensemble, a professional performing arts troupe established in 1956. Working in genres ranging from dance drama to opera, the troupe specialises in artistic creation that features key characteristics of Guizhou culture. With many works in their repertoire that have gained recognition and won awards at home and abroad, including the sensational dance drama Manluo Flower, the company now has a cast and crew of over 200. The troupe has toured over 20 countries, including the UK, France, Japan, Russia and Canada, promoting Guizhou traditions and artistic exchange around the world.

For this particular performance, they will be bringing a variety of dances and songs that portray and show their unique folk customs and the styles they manifest. Join in this musical celebration to say farewell to the happiness and gentleness of the Pig, while welcoming in the optimism and energy of the Rat.
