Veteran Edinburgh club venue Cabaret Voltaire is due to close for six weeks, from Mon 20 Feb–Sun 1 Apr. The club will be subject to a major refurbishment according to a statement released by G1 Group, who have owned the venue since July 2011:

‘A six week period of work will not only address significant structural issues, including severe water ingress, but will give the venue a wholly new look. Award-winning Scottish design company Surface-ID will create a new club and bar design for the venue. They come to the project after winning 'Best Bar’ for Grosvenor Café and 'Best Pub’ for Stravaigin at the 2011 UK and International Bar and Restaurant Design Awards.’

Some of Cabaret Voltaire’s upcoming events will be affected by the closure, including some of the club’s seventh birthday celebrations. As well as weekly nights like Sick Note and Trade Union (see a full list of affected nights at bottom of page), the following special events will be cancelled, postponed or relocated to a new venue:

Sensu, with special guest Seth Troxler – Fri 24 Feb
Karnival, with Inner City (live) – Sat 25 Feb
Split, with Jazzsteppa (live) – Tue 28 Feb.

As well as Cabaret Voltaire, G1 Group are also the company in charge of venues such as GHQ, Ghillie Dhu and The Three Sisters in Edinburgh, and Radio, Kushion and Speakeasy in Glasgow.
