Extraordinary performances in an endearing show

It’s been a busy month for comedian Sammy J and his antipodean compatriot Randy the purple puppet (performed by Heath McIvor). As well as their respective solo shows they pair up for this high-energy musical about companionship and tax evasion.

After establishing their antagonistic relationship over a series of brilliant sketches and songs, the duo’s friendship is severely tested when Sammy J’s day job unveils his flatmate’s litany of financial indiscretions. What follows is a ludicrous, hilarious escapade as Sammy jailbreaks his incarcerated pal in a moment of wondrous simplicity.

At times, you’d swear that Sammy J has his hand up Randy’s backside, such is the impeccable chemistry between the two leads. Considering the two performers can never make eye contact it’s a dazzling display and, remarkably, they’re even able to go off-script to succinctly deal with a rogue flash photographing punter. Featuring two extraordinary performances, this is an endlessly creative, endearing show.

Udderbelly’s Pasture, 0844 545 8252, until 29 Aug, 6pm, £12.50--£14 (£11.50--£13).
