The best Christmas pantos and theatrical extravaganzas in London this festive season

The season of egg nog and days off is almost upon us and with it a range of theatrical extravaganzas that'll make your heart grow three times its size and help you find your Christmas spirit. Or at the very least they'll keep your kids quiet for a few hours and provide you with cheerful entertainment.

To help get you into the festive mood, we've found some of the best Christmas shows in London throughout December and January. Whether you're looking for awe-inspiring arena shows, traditional pantos or more adult fare, our selection will help turn those rain-soaked Decembers into winter wonderlands.

Disney On Ice Presents Find Your Hero

If your kids go crazy for Disney, then Disney On Ice Presents Find Your Hero is the perfect festive day out. Live at the O2 Arena from Wednesday 22 December until Sunday 2 January, the show sees a huge roster of everyone's favourite Disney characters hit the rink, including Moana, Anna and Elsa, showing audiences tales of bravery and pulling off jaw-dropping tricks. One for all the family, whether you love Disney or simply appreciate the skills needed for flawelss figure skating feats.

Disney On Ice Presents Find Your Hero plays in London's O2 Arena from Wednesday 22 December-Sunday 2 January.

The Wizard Of Oz Arena Spectacular

By far the largest panto in the world, The Wizard Of Oz Arena Spectacular is touring the UK throughout the festive season, with a matinee and evening performance at Wembley's SSE Arena on Thursday 30 December. Featuring Countryfile star Matt Baker, the show features one main stage and two mobile stages that will travel around the arena as the yellow brick road unfolds, giving audiences a sense of scale and wonder as they journey further towards the Emerald City.

The Wizard Of Oz Arena Spectacular will be performed at Wembley's SSE Arena on Thursday 30 December.

Pantoland At The Palladium

A classic romp filled with double entrendre and cheeky comedy, Pantoland At The Palladium stars master of pantos Julian Clarey and 70s hearththrob Donny Osmond. Describing itself as the 'ultimate feel-good show', Pantoland promises an evening of dance and songs (with the occasional filthy joke thrown in for good measure) as people shout 'It's behind you!' as often as possible.

Pantoland At The Palladium will play at the London Palladium from Saturday 4 December-Sunday 9 January.

Potted Panto

Cramming seven pantos into 70 brisk minutes is no easy feat, but it's a task that Potted Panto rises to with aplomb. Featuring CBBC's Dan and Jeff, the show sees the actors take on every role in panto faves like Dick Whittington, Aladdin, Cinderella, Snow White and more. With plenty of hi-jinx and a costume shop's worth of wigs, this Olivier-award winning duo will have you and your kids in fits of laughter long before the curtains fall.

Potted Panto will play at the Garrick Theatre from Saturday 11 December-Sunday 9 January.

Dick Whittington

If you're searching for something a little more adult in tone for the festive season, then Tuckshop Productions all-drag reimagining of Dick Whittington should be exactly your cup of tea. Featuring Dick as he stalks the streets of Soho, the adverts for this unique show promise 'you'll be gagging on Dick and his friends as they bring the spirit of Soho to the West End'. Maybe leave the kids at home for this one.

Dick Whittington will play at the Phoenix Theatre from Sunday 5 December-Sunday 9 January.

The Nutcracker

Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker should be experienced at Christmastime at least once in your life to fully appreciate its Romantic vision of the festive season. Presented by The Moscow Ballet, this is a wholly traditional take on the Russian classic, and all the better for it.

The Nutcracker will play at Richmond Theatre on Saturday 15 January.

The Snowman

Anyone who delights in rewatching The Snowman on Christmas day deserves to see this stage adaptation, which recaptures all the magic of the cartoon and enchants with its design and choreography. Walking through the air has never felt so good.

The Snowman will play at the Peacock Theatre from Sunday 20 November-Sunday 2 January.

Aladdin

Putting a new twist on the classic tale of one boy and the lamp he can't stop rubbing, this family-friendly adaptation of Aladdin adds new jokes and japes to this already fantastical adventure. With a stellar cast including Qasim Mahmood as Aladdin, Stephan Boyce as Dave Twankey, Kate Donnachie as Emperor/Genie, Irvine Iqbal as Abanazer, Gracie McGonigal as Wishy and Ellena Vincent as Jasmine, this promises to be a magical carpet ride.

Aladdin will play at the Lyric Hammersmith from Friday 19 November-Sunday 2 January.
