1. Scott Monument

The largest monument to a writer in the world, the Scott Monument on Princes Street stands over 200ft high. Those fit enough to tackle the 287 steps to the top are rewarded with spectacular views over the Forth to Fife.

2. North Bridge

Often cited as the windiest place in Edinburgh, North Bridge on an autumn day can make walking an uphill struggle. On a fine day, views down the East Lothian coast are worth stopping for.

3. Calton Hill

At the east end of Princes Street, Calton Hill is a fairly easy walk for all abilities, and the summit opens out to plenty of grassy areas perfect for letting the children run about.

4. Arthur’s Seat

It’s impossible to visit Edinburgh and not notice the huge mass of Arthur’s Seat looming over the city. Take time to climb the 823ft and soak up the 360 degree views.

5. Inverleith Park

It may not seem logical to head downhill for a good view, but Inverleith Park offers an amazing vista of the city skyline, and is a popular destination for families and dogwalkers.
