Pre-lunch comedy is not a very common affair, but it goes oddly well with the hour Harry Baker has brought to this year's festival. The poet and mathematician starts by explaining the categorisation of I Am 10,000 in the Fringe brochure as comedy, theatre and spoken word, and from that introduction it becomes plain that the audience is in for something a bit different.

Baker is celebrating the fact he has turned 10,000 days old this August with a journey down memory lane. From his time in the poetry-slam circuit all the way up to his winning the poetry world cup, from his love of prime numbers and his year abroad in Germany, this fusion of verse and number could very easily not work. However, Baker proves just how he got to the top of the poetry chain as he endearingly weaves his verse with both maths and comedy.

The poetry segments are recited slightly too fast, and a German piece about a falafel spoon works only by virtue of his great stage presence (and the smart inclusion of audience participation throughout). But as the hour comes to a close, we're left wondering if such a unique blend, as refreshing as it is, can keep up with its more mainstream counterparts.
