Gjetost Cheese
Cheese isn’t so exotic, we’ll grant you, but this particular Norwegian variety (pronounced ‘yet-oast’) is unlike any other. With the texture of fudge and the flavour of caramel, you won’t know whether you asked for a cheeseboard or dessert.

Mithai
Mithai are fried sweets involving lots of sugar and milk, a big comfort food favourite across India and Pakistan. Many curry houses will offer a basic range, but Glasgow Sweet House’s selection extends to around 50 or 60 varieties. It’s a sugary haven.

Hershey's Kisses
Time was, Hershey’s and other branded American sweets like Reese’s were an exotic luxury found only in ads on the back of Marvel comics. They’re a supermarket staple now, but a specialist store like Lupe Pinto’s is good for the less common varieties.

Pierogi
These dumplings made of unleavened dough are a real treat in Poland and other Eastern European countries. Polish delicatessen Polish Taste sell them with meat, sauerkraut and mushroom, Swiss cheese or Russian style.
