1. The original Blue Men are Matt Goldman, Phil Stanton and Chris Wink, New York street performers who established their own Club Nowhere outside the Copacabana in the late 1980s. Previously, they had hammered away at their plumbing pipes in living rooms and Central Park, once conducting a 'Funeral for the 80s' for the postmodern theories of art. 'Surprisingly,' they wrote on their website, 'the funeral worked. The next day, artists all over the world agreed to stop making art based on these misguided concepts.' Bravo!
2. The group have been plagued by labour relations controversies and in 2007 were placed on a boycott list at the request of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, Moving Picture Technicians, Artists and Allied Crafts. That's IATSE to you and I.
3. They love rooftops, a common theme in their shows. Apparently, it's a metaphor for 'following your bliss.' En garde!
4. Filming is due to begin soon on a big-screen musical venture which should be seen on an Imax 3D screen near you in 2010.
5. The group has expanded massively from the original trio but they have strict requirements about potential new recruits. Stipulations include being between 5ft 10in and 6ft 1in, having an open attitude to exploring 'alternative acting skills' and possessing the capacity to 'let your ego go.' Being able to play pipes as drums and not suffering from cyanophobia would no doubt also come in handy. Cyanophobia? That's a morbid fear of the colour blue.
