Seeing your heroes for the first time is an encounter always fraught with peril. When trooping along with all your fellow fans, questions begin to rumble about whether they will live up to your awesome expectations or whether you’ll have to promptly return home and rip down your favourite posters. But when your hero’s are rock legends, there is no need to fear - it really doesn’t get much better than AC/DC live.

Promoting new album Black Ice, their first since 2000’s Stiff Upper Lip, the veteran rockers arrived at London’s 02 Arena showing no signs of fatigue following their mammoth 23 date US tour.

Lavish stage decoration was the order of the day as fans where treated to a short animation that finished with a huge replica train bursting through the parted screens accompanied by Angus Young in his trademark school uniform striking the opening riffs to latest single ‘Rock and Roll Train.’ This set the tone for the show - over the top theatrics mixed with driving rock and roll riffs.

New material such as 'Big Jack' and 'War Machine' fitted seamlessly with classics such as ‘Hells Bells’ and ‘You Shook Me All Night Long’ - proving that AC/DC have clearly stuck with a winning formula in writing Black Ice. The screaming vocals of Brian Johnson are as powerful as ever whilst Angus Young remains the essential rock and roll entertainer, showing an abundance of energy and extravagance that defies his age.

Highlights included a rendition of fans favourite ‘Whole Lotta Rosie’ in which a giant inflatable Rosie complete with suspenders and cleavage was lowered to sit astride the train, whilst classic track ‘Hells Bells’ saw Johnson swinging from a life size church bell as Young played the now iconic opening riff. This was only surpassed by an encore that saw six cannons blast confetti into a wild and ecstatic crowd to the sound of the rock classic ‘For Those About To Rock (We Salute You)’.

For old and new fans alike, this was AC/DC at their very best on a tour that is a must see.
