Exposure: Jocasta Sleeps

In their short but sweet tenure together, Jocasta Sleeps - Callum Wiseman, John McGinley, and Niall McGarvie - have spend the majority of this time holed up in bedrooms and rehearsal studios, engineering and honing their craft, whilst dedicating all remaining moments to carving out their place as regulars on the Glasgow gig circuit. The band weave tightly wound rhythms - flitting from a Jimmy Eat World Hard pace, to outright dance floor - with an acute sense of melody that along with rousing shouts and dreamy lyricism, shakes life into the upbeat rock formula. Coupled with a brief U.K. tour, and a successful festival run last year, the band are now gearing up for what looks to be a promising year ahead, with a single in the pipeline and plans to tour brewing at this very moment. For the inside scoop, here's a few words from the band's Vocalist/Guitarist, and resident Islander, Callum:

So, how did it all start?

We all met in a recording studio in the West End when i moved down from Shetland. We were introduced by mutual friends and have been best friends ever since. We jammed in various different incarnations before finally ending up where were are today.

What was the inspiration behind the name?

Jocasta is a Queen from Greek mythology; she was Oedipus' mum. John and I were listening to The Doors a lot at the time too!

What would you say has been your biggest achievement so far?

I'd have to say playing T in The Park last year. We did a few festivals last year, but we played the T Break stage and the tent was rammed! We still don't know how that happened but it was awesome.

What would you say drives you as a band?

I guess our driving force would have be the punters man! Seeing their faces when we're onstage is amazing. That, and the fact we dont want real jobs either!

So what are your plans for the year ahead?

We are planning to do a couple of singles - the first one should be out around May time - and basically tour as much as we can and have as much fun as humanly possible in the process!
