Edinburgh radio station Talk 107 to close

Edinburgh based radio station Talk 107 is to close after both the search for a buyer and a management buyout failed to transpire.

UTV Radio (GB) has today announced that it is to close its Edinburgh based speech radio station talk107 and hand the license back to the industry regulator Ofcom.

Staff were informed of talk107’s imminent closure at a meeting held at the station earlier today. The station will cease broadcasting at 10pm on Wednesday 24th December. It's believed that 11 permanent jobs and up to nine freelance positions are affected.

At the time of its launch in February 2006, talk107 was the UK’s only local FM commercial speech radio station outside of London.

On the closure of the station Scott Taunton, UTV Radio (GB) Chief Executive, said: “It is disappointing that after an exhaustive search we have not been able to find a buyer for talk107. We explored a number of options, including a proposed management buyout, but none proved to be viable. So unfortunately we have been left with no alternative but to close the station."
