1. He’s got a sound in his head Double Talk was put together specifically to explore a sound that Theo had in his head, featuring his saxes and flute alongside the brilliant Mike Outram on guitar, Hammond organ wiz Paul Whittaker and ex-Fairground Attraction drummer Roy Dodds.
2. We like him up here Way back in 1996, the audience at the Glasgow International Jazz Festival were invited to vote for the Outstanding Concert of the festival, with a range of international jazz stars to chose from. Guess who they picked?
3. He likes prog rock Theo is one of the UK’s top jazz saxmen, but has an abiding love for prog. He’s covered the King Crimson classic ‘21st Century Schizoid Man’, is a long-standing member of Gong, and replaced the late Elton Dean in Soft Machine Legacy.
4. He’s into intriguing stuff Theo had some musical parameters in mind for Double Talk that ordinary jazz groups don’t reach – the dark, minimal soundworld of late Talk Talk albums, Terje Rypdal’s panoramic guitar creations, the soundscapes of Robert Fripp, and the freewheeling psychedelic improvisations of early Softs and Pink Floyd’s Interstellar Overdrive.
