Five things you might not know about… Elaine C Smith

In 1987, the Baillieston-born actress appeared in the kids show Dramarama in an episode entitled 'My Mum's a Courgette.'
Her most recent Beeb appearance was in Jennifer Saunders' ill-fated Life and Times of Vivienne Vyle. Fortunately, Smith only had one wee part, as 'Rosie'.
If she could pick a fictional character whose life she'd like to have led it would be Scarlett O'Hara.
The death of her mother almost led to Smith giving up the acting game completely. But a wave of encouragement from the punters during her performance in Thoroughly Modern Millie shortly after the funeral helped her carry on.
For her Twelve Nights of Christmas show at Oran Mor, she'll be unveiling an array of new characters including Trendy Helen, a BBC secretary who once pulled a playwright but is now more into creepy men in chinos, and Audrey, a nouveau riche shopper from Milngavie. (Brian Donaldson)
