Review of the year - clubs

We can’t look back on 2007 without mentioning two of the biggest (but very different) clubs in Scotland reaching their tenth birthday. Optimo (pictured) have continued to plough their own furrow of weird goodness as Twitch and Wilkes forge ahead with the most forward thinking club these isles have to offer.
Vegas! is another Scottish institution, but the glitz and glamour never outweighs the excellence of the music played or the guests the club attracts.

Also worth highlighting is Tokyoblu. With a monthly night in Edinburgh the club is a live force to be reckoned with taking house as its base but adding funk, beats and other grooves. The club rocked two different stages at this year’s T in the Park and has had DJ support from names such as Fatboy Slim and Trevor Rockcliffe.

And it’s been great to see loads of weird and/or wonderful venues opening in both cities such as The GRV, The Flying Duck, The Voodoo Rooms, The Beat Club. Clearly, as we embark on 2008, Scotland’s club scene is thriving. (Henry Northmore)
