Soap star to become new Knight Rider

US soap star Justin Bruening is to star in a feature length version of 1980s series Knight Rider.

The 28-year-old will play the son of Michael Knight, the character portrayed by David Hasselhoff between 1982 and 1986, in a two-hour TV pilot which could be made into a series if successful.

The original series saw a leather jacket-clad Hasselhoff team up with talking car Kit to fight crime.

Bruening has starred in the soap opera All My Children since 2003.

It is hoped the remake will repeat the success of revived series Bionic Woman, which has proved a hit with US viewers.
