Ang Lee looks to follow Golden Lion with Golden Horse

Ang Lee has received 11 nominations for the Chinese language Golden Horse Awards for his film Lust, Caution.

Set in Japanese-occupied Shanghai during World War II, the film tells the story of a Chinese woman involved in a plot to seduce and kill an enemy collaborator.

The thriller is nominated for best film, while Lee is up for best director and Taiwanese filmmaker of the year.

Tang Wei and Tony Leung, in the lead roles, are up for the best actor and actress awards.

Although the film has already been knocked out of the running for an Oscar, as well as for a prize at the Hong Kong Film Awards for failing to meet entry rules, it won the prestigious Golden Lion prize at the Venice Film Festival some weeks ago.

The Golden Horse Awards are considered the Chinese language equivalent of the Oscars, although the winners are decided by a jury similar to the Cannes film festival.
