DRUM & BASS

They’ve become firm friends with the crew at Xplicit and Pendulum are once again winging their way up to Scotland. Their visit coincides with Xplicit making their Arches debut in Glasgow, taking the club to another level on the west coast. But that’s not the only change to the Xplicit format as the three-headed beats monster that is Pendulum will be performing as a full live band, amping up their heavy drum & bass sound with snarling guitar riffs, pounding drums and thudding bass, mixed with a bank of furious samples and MC skills.

Hailing from Perth, Australia, producers Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen joined forces with DJ Paul Harding back in 2002 and Pendulum was unleashed on an unsuspecting world. Mixing their love of hip hop, breaks, metal and punk, they created their own brand of in your face drum & bass. ‘Slam’ was a huge crossover hit and led to them remixing the likes of the Prodigy, as well as the release of their debut album Hold Your Colour.

Now the band are moving to the next stage with this live tour. ‘We want our music to be an escape,’ they explain. ‘That was the energy we picked up on and liked about electronic music when we first got into it. It felt like the same energy found with bands like Led Zeppelin and even The Beatles, and still occasionally today with bands like Tool, The Mars Volta, and Queens Of The Stone Age. To us, it made perfect sense to combine the best of both worlds.’
