Gordon Ramsay has joined French counterpart Alain Ducasse to be named the most Michelin-starred chef in the world.

Just weeks after critics claimed the Scottish chef had ‘gone off the boil’; Ramsay was awarded two Michelin stars for his new restaurant in New York.

His latest coup puts his tally at 12, bringing him on a level pegging with lauded French chef Ducasse.

The restaurant - Gordon Ramsay at The London - failed to cause a stir with reviewers when it opened in January, however Michelin guide director Jean-Luc Naret said the consistency in food and service had earned the two stars.

The reality TV star said of the accolade: ‘It is a great honour to have received two stars from the Michelin Guide in our first year in New York.

‘To achieve such recognition means a huge amount and I am very proud of chef de cuisine Josh Emett, the maitre d’ Jean-Baptiste Requien and our very talented team.’

He added: ‘I still won’t sleep until I get three stars in the bag.’
