Durham beats Edinburgh and Glasgow for tourism city prize

Edinburgh and Glasgow have both been named among the UK’s top five tourist destinations for the third year in a row by Condé Nast Traveller magazine.

The positions of the Scottish cities slipped however, with Edinburgh voted second and Glasgow fourth. Last year Glasgow made the top spot and the Capital ranked second.

The ceremony in London saw Durham scoop the first place, with London third and Manchester fifth.

VisitScotland’s area director for Edinburgh, Ben Carter commented: “Edinburgh is a great city break destination offering visitors a rich choice of attractions and cultural experiences set in spectacular surroundings.”

Edinburgh has topped the prestigious list three times in the last nine years, while Glasgow has been named the UK’s top tourist city twice.
