Edinburgh disability arts festival launches

An arts festival has launched in Edinburgh which will challenge audiences to reconsider stereotypical notions of disability. The Degenerate4 event will see performers from around the world take part in 12 shows at the Capital’s Theatre Workshop until the end of the month. The festival is supported by the Scottish Arts Council and is now in its fourth year. The line up includes a performance by a man blinded in a Los Angeles shooting, as well as The Crippendales – hailed the UK’s only disabled male strippers. Anne Fleming, Theatre Workshop producer, said: “Theatre Workshop is known for its groundbreaking approach to disability theatre and has been recognised as Europe’s first fully inclusive producing theatre since 1999. The quality and scope of this year’s Degenerate festival underlines this commitment to excellence and diversity.”
