International Festival Opening Concert: Candide Jonathan Mills kicks off his first Internataional Festival at the helm with a concert that aims to bridge the gap between the Fringe and the Festival, featuring Bernstein’s vivacious Candide with Laura Aiken (pictured) taking the part of Cunegonde. John Renbourne A solo outing for the one-time Pentangle guitarist whose highly original style changed the way people think about folk guitar playing. His repertoire is for the most part folk and jazz but he dips a toe in the blues pond too. Acoustic Music Centre@St Brides, 346 1405, 14 Aug, 7.15pm, £12 (£10).

Orkestra Del Sol A home-grown musical smorgasbord driven by a massive brass section throwing everything from eastern European vibes to jazz, Latin and pretty much everything in between. A ready made party, complete with soundtrack. Spiegelgarden, 667 8940, 13, 14 & 21 Aug, 8pm, £10 (£7).

Found Never afraid to go out on a limb for a musical adventure, this Edinburgh outfit take their organic, rootsy, folktronica to the Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop for a special audio-visual installation. Edinburgh Sculpture Workshhop, 551 4490, 9–12, 16–19 & 23–26 Aug, 11am–5pm, free.

Seasick Steve and Dave Acari A genuine one off here: a bluesman who has the life story to fill 100 blues albums, replete with the hand-made instruments and a voice to suit. T on the Fringe, Liquid Room, 225 2564, 14 Aug, 7pm, £12.

Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain Fun strumming from this amusing group. Assembly@Queen’s Hall, 668 2019, 9–11 Aug, 7.30pm, £20.

Amanda Palmer On half of The Dresden Dolls strides out on her own for the third year at the Fringe with a clutch of new songs frm her soon to arrive solo album and some familiar favourites. Spiegelgarden, 667 8940, 9–18 Aug (not 13, 14), 8pm, £12 (£10).
