No summer holiday fun in the North London suburbs for vicar’s son Ben (Harry Potter’s flame-haired Rupert Grint) - just endless do-gooding Christian tasks with his domineering mother (Laura Linney). Enter a very different matriarchal figure, retired actress Evie (Julie Walters), who introduces the shy teenager to the joys of following one’s heart. Writer/director Brock’s coming-of-age yarn steers a predictable, uninspired course. The OTT performances of the female leads do however prove occasionally camply entertaining. (Tom Dawson)
