4 to see: Fringe debuts
Some of this year’s most exciting Fringe newbies include a Traitors winner and an Emmy nominee
First up is unfiltered storytelling from Jennifer Jane (Just The Tonic Mash House, 6–30 August, 7.15pm) in a show directed by the estimable Stuart Laws. Happy Tea covers a wide variety of everyday topics, such as sleeping in an elk and enjoying an encounter with ghost sperm. Ultimate victor in the first season of The Traitors, Hannah Byczkowski (Gilded Balloon Teviot, 5–30 August, 5.10pm) brings us Killer. Definitely not a miserable hour, despite featuring family ashes, serial killers and funeral disasters. Brooklyn-born actress, model, podcaster and comic Sydnee Washington (Monkey Barrel Cabaret Voltaire, 5–16 August, 3.50pm) is here to discuss My Black Barbie Story. An Emmy nominee for her role in digital comedy series Bridesman, she has toured with Chelsea Handler and worked as a bottle girl in New York nightclubs. She has tales to tell. In Pushing 30, Abby Govindan (Pleasance Courtyard, 5–30 August, 9.35pm) will be fretting over getting older (she’s 28), chatting about dating and musing on generational curses. She might also talk about that time she lied about being the creator of Emily In Paris. We’ve all been there, right?
